Research infrastructures as engines of integration for micro‑ and nanomaterial research: a European perspective inspired by FHERITALE
The article shows how the EU‑funded FHERITALE project and European research infrastructures are turning fragmented capabilities into coordinated, One Health‑ready services for micro‑ and nanoplastic research.
Drawing on FHERITALE’s Policy Brief and White Paper, it maps current gaps, emerging priorities and the strategic role of RIs in harmonizing methods, standards and access to technologies across food, health and environment domains.
Europe can lead globally in micro‑ and nanomaterial research if it integrates RI capabilities, aligns standards and shifts from descriptive studies toward mitigation, remediation and policy‑relevant solutions.
